The Indiana Pacers have hired a new head coach after parting ways with Nate McMillan following their playoff series loss against the eventual Eastern Conference NBA Finals representative Miami Heat. This was the Pacers’ fifth-consecutive first round exit, and their third sweep in four years.
In his stead, Indiana chose Nate Bjorkgren, a former Toronto Raptors assistant who won the NBA Championship with that team in 2019. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news on Tuesday via Twitter.
Bjorkgren has never been the head coach of an NBA franchise before. He did, however coach the Santa Cruz Warriors to a D-League championship in 2011. His new challenge will be to ensure the Pacers not only get back to the playoffs, but secure a playoff series win for the first time since they were in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2014.
