The Lakers continue to make big moves.
Shortly after acquiring Russell Westbrook from the Wizards in a blockbuster trade, Los Angeles has signed three former Lakers. Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza and Wayne Ellington are all re-joining the team.
Here is ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski’s reporting of the Dwight Howard news, via Twitter on Monday.
As stated above, Dwight Howard is a former, now current, Laker who won the 2020 NBA Finals with the team in the Orlando “bubble.” He spent his 2021 season with the Philadelphia 76ers, who lost to the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. This will be his third stint in Los Angeles.
Ariza is also a former NBA champion with the Lakers, winning the title in 2009. He has bounced around since then, changing teams nine times since winning a championship. Ariza spent his most recent season with the Miami Heat.
Ellington was a Laker for two seasons, in 2014 and 2015. The former NCAA-champion with the UNC Tarheels was a Detroit Piston in 2020 and 2021, signing with the Lakers just after the free agency window opened on August 2.
