2024-2025 stats: 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.7 steals, 1.4 blocks, 49.7% FG, 33.6% 3FG, 59.4% FT
Wolf was an unranked recruit in the class of 2022 who signed with Yale out of Illinois. He averaged 2.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game as a freshman. Wolf showed improvement in the 2023-2024 season with the Bulldogs, averaging 14.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He helped Yale win their first round 2024 NCAA Tournament game against Auburn. Following the year, he transferred to Michigan. With the Wolverines, he had 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Wolf helped the team make the Sweet 16 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Following the season, Wolf declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Wolf is an extremely unique player, as he is a big who has great playmaking ability. Michigan often used him as the trigger man in the pick and roll and he operated it well. He sees the floor clearly and is able to drive the lane and find open shooters on the perimeter. He can be a mismatch for opponents because of his ability to handle the ball and make plays for others at his size.
He can also score the ball in a variety of ways. While Wolf can improve his finishing, he is able to score from the interior, mid-range and from the 3-point line. He will need to continue working on his shot from deep, but that is possible with more time. He can shoot off the dribble and the catch, making him diverse.
His defensive game is at its best when he is protecting the rim. He averaged 1.4 blocks per game at Michigan last season, which were the most he had shown in a season for his career. That’s impressive given the uptick in competition. He shows good help defense, blocking shots from the weakside with some frequency.
Wolf is more of a skilled big man than an athletic one. He doesn’t have the greatest foot speed and other players can outrun him. Wolf also finishes below the rim a lot for a player of his size. His limited athleticism makes it tougher for him to finish at the basket and be a factor in transition.
His post defense has some perks, but he can struggle on the perimeter. Michigan played with two bigs a lot, which forced Wolf to guard smaller players a bit. He struggled to stay in front of perimeter players. In the NBA it might be tough for Wolf to switch on pick and rolls if he has to take a perimeter player as his matchup.
While he is solid at handling the ball and passing, he turned the ball over too much at Michigan. He averaged 3.2 turnovers per game, which hurt his team. Wolf was clearly still learning to play a new role and the positives outweigh the negatives. He can force passes at times and a more spaced floor in the NBA could help limit his turnovers.
