Clippers Continue to Clear Cap Space at Trade Deadline

The Memphis Grizzlies continue their trade deadline moves by sending JaMychal Green and Garrett Temple to the Los Angeles Clippers for Avery Bradley. Although, they chose to hold onto their franchise point guard in Memphis.

Bradley, a defensive specialist, has averaged 8.2 points per game over 49 games with the Clippers this season. This is a small step down from the veteran’s career average, but he continues his defensive efficiency.

This hammers home the notion that the Clippers are clearing cap space for the upcoming free agent season, as Bradley was owed almost $25 million over this and next season.

The Clippers, in return receive two capable shooters in JaMychal Green and Garrett Temple from Memphis that do not feature the cap hit that Bradley does.

In further moves, there was an inter-city trade during this deadline, as the Lakers receive some shooting in Mike Muscala from the Clippers. This opens up a roster spot for the Lakers, which could be filled by the likes of Carmelo Anthony. It also gives them some much-needed shooting.

The Clippers, in return, receive the manageable contracts of Ivica Zubac and Michael Beasley. Meaning this trade alone is a net gain for salary cap purposes, let alone the salary the Clips shed by getting rid of Bradley.

During a busy trade deadline, both Los Angeles teams have made their designs clear. Both teams are positioning themselves to lock up one or two max deals in summer 2019, while Memphis prepares for a potentially long rebuild.
