Are the Warriors on the way out?
After the Warriors big loss to the Lakers on Christmas Day does that mean we should be expecting their come down any time soon? More than likely not. Many fans and online forums seem to think that this loss will be the catalyst. But no, we will need a lot more evidence to show that the Warriors dynasty is done.
The Warriors are still an elite team. They still have a team of stars. They still have one of the best coaches in the league. All of this while DeMarcus Cousins is sidelined because of his torn Achilles.
While this season may not be going the way the Warriors or fans expected that is not a huge issue. Many will point to this time last year. The Warriors were 28-7 and had not lost their twelfth game until February. But is this a sign that the Warriors dynasty is done, or that the West is stepping up? Currently, the Warriors have a 23-12 record. Seven of these losses have come from the Western Conference, and three have come from the Bucks and Raptors. The only two teams above them in the standings.
Right now the Warriors are also the first seed in the West and third overall based on their record. This does not support the idea that the Warriors dynasty is done.
Concerned fan? Don’t be.
The cause for concern, however, does come from within the team itself. The roster has not had a huge shakeup in several years, aside from Durant. Since Durant’s fight with Draymond Green things have certainly been off. Right after that fight happened the Warriors went on to lose four games straight. The last time a slide like that happened was in the 2013 season. Does that mean there was more than we saw from Durant and Green? Or is the team that reliant on Stephen Curry? These two points are where we should be paying more attention to as this season carries on. Especially if Steph is injured again. But this in no way would indicate the team is losing any power.
This team is still elite
This game should be considered a statement for the Lakers rather than a franchise-altering loss for the Warriors. If that were the case the 2016 Finals would have wiped the Warriors off the map. But as we often see, media loves to take a story and run with it.
It is a true testament to how great this team is, that after 35 games being 23-12 is somehow underperforming. The greatest teams find a way to win. For years the Warriors have shown that they are a legendary team, now that they are having an “off” season it is time to see how Kerr circles the wagons and proves this team still lives up to the hype.
It’s definitely fun to imagine what new teams will rise up and overtake the Warriors. Barring any major trades or injuries this season and maybe the next few, you can almost guarantee them a spot in the Conference Finals.
