Recap:

The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a lackluster season but have made quite a few moves to reenergize the roster entering the 2026–27 season. Their biggest move of the offseason was trading for star forward Julius Randle and the No. 28 overall pick in the NBA Draft in a three-team deal that sent former Nets center Nicholas Claxton to the Chicago Bulls. Randle steps into the role as one of the team’s primary scoring options alongside Michael Porter Jr., who had a strong first year with the Nets last season.

In 52 games with the Nets last year, MPJ averaged 24.2 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting 46.3% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range. Randle, who averaged 21.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists, should take some of the scoring load off MPJ and give the Nets another versatile option who can score from anywhere on the court.

Besides Randle, the Nets also signed guard Keon Ellis and center Moritz Wagner in free agency.

Ellis, who played last season for both the Kings and Cavaliers, will get a chance at a bigger role within the Nets’ offense and provide them with a capable three-point shooter who has a career average of 40.7% from behind the arc.

Wagner, who averaged 10.0+ points in three straight seasons with the Magic from 2022–23 to 2024–25 before seeing a slight dip last season (6.9 points per game), will get a new change of scenery and help center Day’Ron Sharpe solidify the frontcourt.

The Nets also have several talented young pieces, many of whom they recently drafted in the 2026 NBA Draft in June. Mikel Brown Jr., who the Nets selected sixth overall out of Louisville, should be the team’s starting point guard entering the season and will form an exciting backcourt duo with Egor Demin, the Nets’ eighth overall selection in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Besides Brown Jr., the Nets also drafted forward Joshua Jefferson with the 28th overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, a selection they received as part of the Julius Randle trade.

Throughout the offseason, the Nets added more than they lost and should have plenty of reasons for optimism as they look to improve during the 2026–27 season.
