The 2025 NBA All-Star Game tournament took place on Sunday at the Chase Center in San Francisco. It concluded with Shaquille O’Neal’s team of “OG’s” defeating Charles Barkley’s team of global stars by a score of 41-25.
Instead of a traditional Eastern vs Western Conference game like in past events, the NBA opted to host a four-team single elimination tournament. Each game had a target score of 40.
Team captains O’Neal, Barkley, Kenny Smith and Candace Parker would draft the All-Stars into four teams, with each having their own identity.
O’Neal’s team of “OG’s” consisted of players that have been a mainstay in the NBA for the last decade. Players such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant made up the team.
Barkley’s global stars team consisted of international players such as Canada’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, France’s Victor Wembanyama and Serbia’s Nikola Jokic.
Young stars such as Anthony Edwards and Cade Cunningham, who have made their mark in the league in a short period of time, joined Smith’s team.
Parker’s rising stars team looked far into the future. It consisted of promising rookies such as Dalton Knecht, Stephon Castle and Jaylen Wells.
Although they were eligible in the All-Star draft, James and Edwards would not play due to injury.
In the first round, the global stars defeated the young stars 41-32. Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 12 points on perfect 5-for-5 shooting.
On the other side of the bracket, the “OG’s” defeated the rising stars 42-35. Milwaukee Buck Damian Lillard put up 9 points, all coming from 3-pointers.
The hometown hero Curry and Celtics’ Jayson Tatum combined for 27 of the “OG’s” 41 points to defeat the global stars in the championship game. Curry took home the Kobe Bryant All-Star MVP award for his performance. Wembanyama put up 11 points in defeat.
While the 2025 NBA All-Star Game was very different from past editions, it was sure one to remember.
