The 2024 NBA Draft has had some twists and turns. Each team will be given a grade for their picks in the draft. Here are the 2024 NBA Draft Grades.
Eastern Conference
Atlanta Hawks: C
Draft Picks: F Zaccharie Risacher, G/F Nikola Djurisic
It wasn’t a good year to have the first pick, but the Hawks could have drafted a more impactful player. Djurisic can score, but needs to work on making his shooting more consistent.
Boston Celtics: B
Draft Picks: G Baylor Scheierman, F Anton Watson
Scheierman can score by shooting or getting to the basket. He could help the Celtics’ bench next season. Watson really improved as a scorer and shooter during his five years at Gonzaga.
Brooklyn Nets:
Draft Picks:
Charlotte Hornets: D
Draft Picks: F Tidjane Salaun, G KJ Simpson
Salaun was a late riser on draft boards, but it will take some time for him to develop. Simpson was taken in a good range and made some big shots for Colorado over his career.
Chicago Bulls: B
Draft Picks: F Matas Buzelis,
Buzelis drafted Buzelis at good value, as he has good athleticism and body control for his size.
Cleveland Cavaliers: C
Draft Picks: G Jaylon Tyson,
Tyson can play multiple positions, including playing on and off the ball, which makes him enticing, but he was taken a little too soon.
Detroit Pistons: D
Draft Picks: G/F Ron Holland, F Bobi Klintman,
The Pistons reached on Holland and likely could’ve traded down and still selected him. Klintman had experience in college at Wake Forest, but also played professionally in the NBL.
Indianapolis Pacers: A
Draft Picks: G/F Johnny Furphy, G Tristen Newton, F Enrique Freeman,
Furphy somehow lasted to the second round and the Pacers traded up to get a good shooter and athlete. Newton is a floor general capable of filling up a stat sheet. Freeman can score in the post well.
Miami Heat: B
Draft Pick: F Kel’el Ware, G/F Pelle Larsson
Ware is a versatile forward who could help protect the rim for Miami. Larsson can shoot the basketball as an excellent floor spacer.
Milwaukee Bucks: D
Draft Picks: G AJ Johnson, F Tyler Smith
The Bucks took Johnson, who will take some time to develop at the end of the first round, but it was a little too early. Smith was in a good range and can stretch the floor a bit for the Bucks.
New York Knicks: C
Draft Picks: F Pacome Dadiet, G Tyler Kolek, G Kevin McCullar
Dadiet won’t make much of an impact for the Knicks immediately, which is odd because they are in win-now mode. Kolek is a good passer who can operate the pick and roll well. McCullar is a good defender who can also score.
Orlando Magic: B
Draft Picks: F Tristan da Silva,
The Magic got another forward that can make score in Silva, which will help their bench.
Philadelphia 76ers: A
Draft Picks: G Jared McCain, C Adem Bona
The 76ers got a good shooter who can take some attention away from Joel Embiid in McCain. Bona is more of a traditional big man, but can provide solid depth as a rim protector
Toronto Raptors: A
Draft Picks: G Ja’Kobe Walter, F Jonathan Mogbo, G Jamal Shead, F Ulrich Comche
Walter can help stretch the floor and score for the Raptors. Mogbo can score and rebound well. Shead is a good floor general and defender. Comche has the chance to protect the rim at a solid level.
Washington Wizards: B
Draft Picks: F Alex Sarr, G Carlton Carrington, G/F Kyshawn George,
The Wizards may have gotten the best prospect in the draft at pick no. 2 in Sarr, but the top of the class isn’t great. Trading for Carrington could help the development of Sarr, as he can help open up space for him with his ability to create his own shot. George will help stretch the floor with his shooting.
Western Conference
Dallas Mavericks: C
Draft Picks: G Melvin Ajinca, C Ariel Hukporti
Ajica has limited experience and needs time to work on his game. Hukporti has good measurables, but needs plenty of time to develop.
Denver Nuggets: B
Draft Picks: F DaRon Holmes,
Denver is getting a versatile big man in Holmes, who can shoot, dribble and protect the rim.
Golden State Warriors: C
Draft Picks: C Quinten Post,
Post showed he can score down low and stretch the floor a bit.
Houston Rockets: A
Draft Picks: G Reed Sheppard,
Sheppard can shoot and set up his teammates well, which will help the young Rockets.
Los Angeles Clippers: C
Draft Picks: G Cam Christie,
Christie shot the ball well in his freshman season at Minnesota and will have some time to develop for the Clippers.
Los Angeles Lakers: B
Draft Picks: G Dalton Knecht, G Bronny James
Knecht was a three-level scorer at Tennessee and should be able to fill a role at the NBA level. Taking LeBron’s son was a big reach, but at least it was near the end of the second round.
Memphis Grizzlies: D
Draft Picks: C Zach Edey, G/F Jaylen Wells, G Cameron Spencer,
Edey’s role will likely be limited at the next level, which means the Grizzlies drafted him too early. Wells is a versatile guard who can shoot. Spencer also stretches the floor.
Minnesota Timberwolves: A
Draft Picks: G Rob Dillingham, G Terrence Shannon,
Dillingham is a player who can create his own shot, which will only open things up for Anthony Edwards. The Timberwolves drafted another great scorer in Shannon.
New Orleans Pelicans: A
Draft Picks: C Yves Missi, G Antonio Reeves
Missi can be a glue guy for the Pelicans, as a good rebounder and shot blocker. Reeves can shoot the ball, but also improved his ability to get to the basket at Kentucky.
Oklahoma City Thunder: B
Draft Picks: G Nikola Topic, F Dillon Jones, G Ajay Mitchell
Topic is a good ball-handler and can operate a second-unit at the NBA level. Jones is used to playing with the ball in his hands, but could’ve been taken later. Mitchell is a good facilitator to develop.
Phoenix Suns: A
Draft Picks: F Ryan Dunn, F Oso Ighodaro,
Phoenix acquired the best defender in the draft and a possible glue guy for the future. Ighodaro is an athletic big who rebounds well.
Portland Trail Blazers: B
Draft Picks: C Donovan Clingan,
The Blazers drafted a young interior centerpiece in Clingan, who will protect the rim well.
Sacramento Kings: A
Draft Picks: G Devin Carter,
Getting another good perimeter defender like Carter could help the Kings take another step forward.
San Antonio Spurs: A
Draft Picks: G Stephon Castle, G Juan Nunez, F Harrison Ingram,
Castle can finish at the rim well and can develop with Victor Wembenyama. Nunez is a good passer who could develop in San Antonio. Ingram can stretch the floor well as a small-ball four.
Utah Jazz: A
Draft Picks: G/F Cody Williams, G Isaiah Collier, F Kyle Filipowski,
Williams has some real potential as a defender and ballhandler. Collier is a good driver who didn’t play up to his potential at USC. The Jazz got a value in Filipowski who is very skillful.
