It was a huge day for Marcus Ericsson as he won Sunday’s inagural Music City Grand Prix race. However, Ericsson won in an unusual fashion, which is now considered a “wreckfest.”
The Wreckfest Mania
Ericsson got into action, using the car in front of him as a ramp to jump off of. He soared over the car of Sebastien Bourdais. Luckily for the Swedish native, he was able to dodge what could’ve been a very ugly disaster in front of many viewers who were watching him.
During this race, Ericsson probably was the talk of the town. During the “wreckfest,” Ericsson was able to knock Bourdais out of the race. This, in turn, helped Ericsson pick up a very important and surprising win.
Oh, and as for his car, there wasn’t really too much damage done to it during the race. All he really needed was a new front flap after five laps of the race.
This probably was surprising information to Ericsson, who believed the car would snap in half. Fortunately that did not happen.
All in all, this young man won a very important race. The Music City Grand Prix is actually the very first street racing course added to Nashville, Tennesse.
What’s even better is that the outcome of this inagural race was absolutely incredible. There were plenty of fans who showed up at Nissan Stadium and came to show their support to all the races.
So, to sum everything all up, Ericsson sure had a wild ride during Monday night’s race. This race could surely be considered a heart-stopping moment for everyone there. The race may have been sort of ugly, but Ericsson won the race.
Thanks to his stunning win, this allows Ericsson to be placed in fifth place for the IndyCar Championship standings.
In recent years, Ericsson participated in the 2019 IndyCar race, earing the podium finish at the conclusion of the race.
During the 2020 IndyCar season, the pandemic didn’t slow the young 30-year old down any. It was during this time that Ericsson decided to move to the Chip Ganassi Racing, Despite a shortened season due to the pandemic, Ericsson was able to finish in the top ten in at least half of his races.
On top of that, he finished fourth place in the Road America race.
