An unexpected win came for the Montreal Impact on Saturday, July 27.
It was an early start for Montreal when they got a goal in the third minute. Zachary Brault-Guillard got the ball and brought it down the right side of the pitch. He passed the ball into the center of the box for Lassi Lappalainen. Lappalainen dribbled to the right when the Philadelphia keeper, Andre Blake, made a dive. He passed the ball into the net making it 1-0.
Only four minutes later, Montreal had another chance when Lappalainen slotted the ball in between players to Daniel Lovitz who has a small angle on the far-right post. Blake made the dive and saved Philadelphia from another early goal.
Philadelphia finally got a chance on goal in the 34th minute of the game. They won the ball back a little outside of the 18. Haris Medunjanin got the ball and passed it out wide to Kacper Przybylko who got a shot on goal. Montreal keeper, Evan Bush, made a diving save. A defender cleared the rebounded ball.
Philadelphia made a bad play a minute later when the ball got to the half-line. Lappalainen got the ball and volleyed it center. Philadelphia player, Raymon Gaddis, tried to clear it but passed it off to Montreal player, Ignacio Pantemis. He spun the ball around and laid it off to Orji Okwonkwo, who dribbled to the top of the box. Okwonkwo got a shot off and got a goal by getting the ball in right under the crossbar to make it 2-0.
In the 38th minute, Philadelphia gets another close chance to score. Alejandro Bedoya got the ball outside the right of the box. He made a central pass that deflected the ball towards the goal. However, the ball met the left post and rebounded out.
Right after the whistle to start the second half, Montreal gained the ball. Lappalainen got it and brought it down the left side of the pitch. He brought it into the box and made a goal by shooting low on the far post.
A free-kick was awarded to Philadelphia in the 65th minute. The ball is shot towards the goal, but was cleared by a header. Maximiliano Urruti got the cleared ball. He chested the ball and then volleyed it backwards to meet the run of Okwonkwo. He got the ball and dribbled down the center of the pitch. Bringing it into the box he shot low on the left post and finished the game 4-0.
After four straight losses, Montreal came back to put a dent in Philadelphia’s first-place lead in the Eastern Conference.
