Former American League Reliever of the Year, Zack Britton, has officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. The left-hander pitched for 12 seasons for two teams (both in the AL East) before hanging it up.
Talkin’ Baseball, a Twitter account run by Jomboy Media, tweeted out the news that was originally disseminated by MLB insider Britt Ghiroli.
Britton was a two-time All-Star, in 2015 and 2016. In the latter of those years, he was elected AL Reliever of the Year and led the American League in saves. Those seasons both came while he was in a Baltimore Orioles uniform.
He was last seen in action during in 2022, when he played in just three games. His last “full” season came in 2021, when he pitched in 22 games, collecting an ERA of 5.89, in 18.1 innings and recorded one save. In that impressive 2016 season, he finished fourth in Cy Young voting and 11th in MVP voting.
