The New York Yankees have made a trade to acquire closer David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to ESPN’s Jeff Pasan. There are no reports of the return for the Pirates as of yet.
Bednar, 30, is a seven-year veteran who has a 3.75 ERA and 101 saves in his career. This season, he has an ERA of 2.37 with 17 saves.
The Yankees have a bullpen ERA that ranks in the bottom half of the league at 4.24. This move will strengthen an area of weakness.
Pittsburgh is out of the playoff race and have already traded pieces away. Along with Bednar, third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes was traded to the Cincinnati Reds.
