The Chicago White Sox have completed a trade to acquire catcher Joey Bart from the Atlanta Braves, according to Jeff Passan. Atlanta is getting pitcher Duncan Davitt in return.
Bart, 29, is a seven-year veteran who has played for the Giants, Pirates and Braves. In his career, he has batted .238 with 32 home runs and 126 RBIs. This season, with time spent with Pittsburgh and Atlanta, Bart is hitting .226 with four home runs and 13 RBIs.
The White Sox have surprised this season with a record of 59-52. Acquiring Bart will help their offense as they haven’t had much production at catcher this season.
Davitt, 26, got his first taste of MLB action this season. He has a 4.50 ERA over two appearances. In AAA this year, he has a 6.22 ERA in 21 games, but has a 4.58 ERA in the minors overall.
The Braves have been loading up on arms before the deadline. Along with Davitt, they have acquired Tyler Mahle and Brent Suter. While the Braves will be thinner at catcher, starter Drake Baldwin will start a lot of games for them down the stretch.
