The Miami Marlins have agreed to trade catcher Liam Hicks to the Tampa Bay Rays for infielder Brayden Taylor, right-handed pitcher Jacob Kisting and infielder Adrian Santana, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Hicks has enjoyed a great 2026 campaign, hitting .282/.363/.432 with 14 home runs and 62 RBIs. Hicks, 27, is only in his second year in the league and will now take his talents to a Rays team that is one of the best in baseball. The Rays are in first place in the AL East with a 65-46 record. It’s clear the Rays are pushing aggressively to stack their roster with just a few months remaining before the playoffs begin.
The Marlins’ trade haul includes Brayden Taylor (the Rays’ 16th-ranked prospect), Jacob Kisting (the Rays’ 26th-ranked prospect) and Adrian Santana (the Rays’ 27th-ranked prospect). Taylor, the Marlins’ newest infielder, is currently hitting .284/.384/.513 at Double-A. Kisting, a right-handed pitcher at High-A, has a 6-0 record with a 1.67 ERA in 16 starts this season.
Lastly, Santana, the Marlins’ new High-A shortstop, is hitting .311/.373/.395 with three home runs and 24 RBIs. The Marlins, who are having a solid season and are still in the hunt with a 58-55 record, lose a talented catcher but receive several promising prospects for the future.
