According to Charles Gasparino of FOX Sports, Steven Cohen is finalizing the paper work to become the majority owner of the New York Mets. Though Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez could make a higher bid than Cohen, the Mets majority owners are likely to choose Cohen over A-Rod and JLo.
Cohen/@Mets (2 of 2) On notion that @JLo/@AROD have a higher bid, one BBB exec says: "Yeah right, Saul Katz will accept less money because he like Stevie Cohen."

There have been rumors of the New York Mets’ majority owners, the Wilson family, are interested in selling the team. Many have been rumored to be interested in owning the Mets, but Cohen has been one of the leading candidates for some time now. Cohen is a hedge fund billionaire who founded Point72 Asset Management.
Mets fans are hoping that Cohen can potentially be the Mets’ ‘Steve Ballmer’ and make them more than just the “little brother” team in New York next to the New York Yankees. Cohen is expected to get the approval needed by the MLB owners to purchase the team. He needs 23 of the 29 owners to approve of him owning the team in order for the transaction to go through.
It seems like the Mets have been at the same place for the past couple of seasons where on paper they look like they can potentially be a playoff team. But in actuality, due to injuries or underperformance, the Mets can’t quite assert themselves as playoff contenders. This season the New York Mets are 19-24 under first-year manager Luis Rojas. The Mets are three games out of the final playoff spot under this year’s expanded playoff format and aren’t expected to make a push to sneak into the playoffs.
