Yankees were talking about a number of starting pitchers with other teams, sources said, and Jordan Montgomery is the one who goes to St. Louis for center fielder Harrison Bader.
Cardinals get another arm after Jose Quintana. And Yankees get one of the best fielding CF in MLB.

Montgomery, 29, has played his entire six-year career with the Yankees. The lefty has a 3.94 career ERA and 22-20 record. He has pitched well this season with a 3.69 ERA.
The Yankees are shipping Montgomery out after acquiring too many starting pitchers for a five-man rotation. While he has played well, Montgomery was the odd man out as the Yankees have built their roster up to compete for a title.
In return, the Yankees are receiving Bader, who is batting .256 and is widely regarded as a good defensive centerfielder. He will likely provide depth and be a late-game defensive substitution for the Yankees.
St. Louis has already acquired Jose Quintana before the trade deadline and now with Montgomery, their pitching will help them make a playoff push.
