The San Francisco Giants are acquiring Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox in return for Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison and more. Robert Murray was the first to report the news.
Devers is a nine-year veteran who has played his whole career with the Red Sox. He is a three-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger and a 2018 World Series champion. In his career, he has batted .279 with 214 home runs and 695 RBIs. This season with the Red Sox, he is batting .271 with 14 home runs and 57 RBIs.
The Giants get another bat to add to their lineup and help their push for the playoffs, as they are 41-30. Devers was reportedly unhappy with being asked to move positions for new Red Sox acquisition Trevor Story this season.
Boston gets Hicks, a 28-year old right-handed pitcher. He has a 6.47 ERA this season with the Giants, but has a 4.23 ERA in his career. Harrison, 23, is a lefty with a 4.56 ERA this season and a mark of 4.48 in his career.
