The Cincinnati Reds have traded relief pitcher Lucas Sims to the Boston Red Sox for Ovis Portes, a minor-league pitcher. Robert Murray was the first to report the news.
Sims had a 3.57 ERA for the Reds this season. In eight seasons, he has a career ERA of 4.41. He has played for the Braves and Reds during his career.
In Boston, Sims will join the Red Sox who have an average bullpen ERA of 4.12. The Red Sox have a record of 56-49 and are looking to make a push to the playoffs.
Cincinnati is restocking their farm system by acquiring the 19-year-old Portes. Portes has posted a 2.52 ERA during two seasons in rookie ball.
The Reds are fourth-last in the National League and are likely building for the future by swapping Sims for a prospect.
