Red Sox Tie Series with Astros after Game Four Slugfest

Publish Date: August 26, 2023

The Red Sox tie the series with the Astros after losing in the first two games of the series, then coming back and winning the last two.

Game 1: Astros win 9-4

The Red Sox did not look good in this game at all. James Paxton, normally a great starter, got blown up through four innings and gave up seven of the nine runs.

Chris Martin came in for the next four and gave up the final two runs.

Game 2: Astros win 7-3

This game was a loss mostly due to the Sox’s static offense for most of the game. Tanner Houck came back for his first start in months, and did relatively ok. He went five innings and gave up three runs, and had three scoreless innings.

The Sox were unable to score until the eighth inning, making morale low, and the relief pitchers not want to try to win.

Game 3: Red Sox win 7-5

The Red Sox finally turned the series around in this game. The Astros got off to a early 4-2 lead, but they were unable to score until extra innings.

Adam Duvall managed to hit a three-run homer in the top of the tenth to put the Sox over by two runs and win the game.

Game 4: Red Sox win 17-1

This game was a slaughter for the Astros. The Red Sox seemed relentless, like they were venting their hitting frustrations from the first two games, and even some leftover frustration from their loss in the 2021 ALCS to the Astros.

The Sox started the game with a leadoff home run by Alex Verdugo. This was followed by a two-run homer by rookie Wilyer Abreu, who was just called up for this series. Then, in the third inning, the Sox did their damage. They scored six runs, and then scored another six in the eighth and ninth.

Brayan Bello also contributed to this monster game, as he only allowed one run in seven innings of pitching.

The Red Sox go home to Fenway to face Mookie Betts and the LA Dodgers on August 25. This game will be the first time Betts has played at Fenway since he left in 2019.
