Pirates Send Starling Marte to Diamondbacks in Trade

The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded outfielder Starling Marte to the Arizona Diamondbacks according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

There isn’t any information on exactly who is going to Pittsburgh, but Passan mentioned his sources are telling him they are two young prospects with potential.

At 31-years-old, Marte has spent his entire 8-year career in Pittsburgh. He is a one-time All-Star and a two-time Gold Glove winner. Marte is a career .287 hitter with 108 home runs and 420 RBIs. In 2019, Marte batted .295 with 23 home runs and 82 RBIs.

The Pirates look to be starting a rebuild by giving up Marte for prospects. Arizona, on the other hand, may now compete for the playoffs after going 85-77 last season.
