The Philadelphia Phillies have completed a trade for Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. In return, the Phillies will send prospects Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait to Minnesota in the deal.
Duran, 27, has played all four of his MLB seasons for the Minnesota Twins. He has 74 career saves and has an ERA of 2.47. This season, he has posted 16 saves on a 2.01 ERA.
Philadelphia bolsters its bullpen with the addition of Duran, which ranks in the bottom third of the league with a 4.31 ERA. Jose Alvarado, one of their notable relievers, was suspended for 80 games for PED usage and will not be eligible for the playoffs.
Abel is a right-handed pitcher in AAA at 23 years old and could be used at the MLB level. Tait was the fourth-ranked prospect in the Pillies system, as a 18-year-old catcher in A-ball.
