As the 2023 MLB free agency deadline approaches, the Padres are making a move to help their rotation. They have reportedly made a trade for 43-year-old left-handed pitcher Rich Hill and first baseman Ji-Man Choi.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
When Hill does make his debut as a Padre, it will mark his 13th MLB team. He made his debut for the Chicago Cubs all the way back in March of 2005. In his 19-year career, he’s won just one award, the Tony Conigilaro award.
So far this year, Hill has garnered an ERA of 4.76 in 22 games started and 119 innings pitched. He’s given up 15 home runs and racked up 104 strikeouts on the season. His lowest total ERA while pitching more than 100 innings was 2.12.
