As was expected all year long, the Oakland A’s have been officially approved to move. MLB owners unanimously approved a move for the Athletics away from Oakland to Las Vegas. This will be the third professional sports team that Vegas has gained since 2017.
FOX Sports tweeted about the news on Thursday morning.
Throughout the year, Oakland residents and fans staged a “reverse boycott” by selling out the Oakland Coliseum to show the MLB that they wanted their team to stay in the Bay Area. It was acknowledged by the MLB brass, but was obviously not successful enough to dissuade them from approving the move.
Many point to the lack of movement on securing a new ballpark in Oakland for the A’s as the main reason they are relocating. The local government is, reportedly, not assisting the team in building a new stadium or making significant updates to the Coliseum.
