The latest sports league to suspend activities is expected to be the MLB.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, a call took place among owners on Thursday. After which the MLB is not only expected to suspend Spring Training, but push back the start of the regular season.
Several opening day parades have been cancelled around the country. It makes sense that the MLB would want to further mitigate the spread of the disease by postponing Opening Day games. These games draw some of the largest crowds of the MLB season, which could exacerbate the spread of the disease.
The league is following in the footsteps of the NCAA, the NBA and the NHL. All these leagues have either suspended play or banned fans from events. It is unclear as of now how long the beginning of the season will be postponed, or when the other leagues will resume play again.
