The Milwaukee Brewers are trading for right-handed pitcher Dustin May and left-handed pitcher JoJo Romero from the Cardinals in exchange for outfielders Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
May, who is in his seventh MLB season, has spent the majority of his career with the Dodgers and has also played for the Red Sox and Cardinals this season. In 21 starts, May has a 5-7 record with a 4.38 ERA and 106 strikeouts.
Alongside May in the trade is reliever JoJo Romero, who has a 3.35 ERA in 43 innings pitched this season. Both talented pitchers have yet to turn 30 and will join an already elite Brewers team that is tied with the Dodgers for the best record in baseball.
The Cardinals are getting the Brewers’ 11th- and 13th-ranked prospects, respectively, in Frias and Ragsdale. Frias, 18, is hitting .342/.427/.553 at Single-A in 2026.
In 26 Double-A games this season, Ragsdale is hitting .292/.429/.698 with 12 home runs. Although the losses of May and Romero will be felt, the Cardinals are 55-57 and remain in the hunt for a Wild Card berth with plenty of games left to play.
