Miami Marlins Acquire Starling Marte From Diamondbacks

The Miami Marlins have traded for outfielder Starling Marte from the Arizona Diamondbacks according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The Diamondbacks will reportedly get Caleb Smith, Humberto Mejia and a player to be named later.

Marte, 31, is a former All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner. In 33 games this season, he has batted .311 with two home runs and 14 RBIs. He is a career .288 hitter with 110 home runs and 434 RBIs.

Smith, 28, is a left-handed pitcher who is 15-18 in his career with a 4.64 ERA. Mejia is a 23-year-old right-hander, who has an 0-2 record with a 5.40 ERA in three starts this season.

The Marlins have been rebuilding for a few years, but at 14-15 are in contention for the playoffs. Arizona, on the other hand, is 14-21, which puts them last in the National League West.
