The Miami Marlins apparently snuck one last deal under the 6:00pm ET trade deadline, as it wasn’t made public until around 15 minutes past the cutoff. They are trading Jean Segura and Khalil Watson for first baseman Josh Bell.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
Bell made his debut in 2016, and is now officially on his fifth team in eight seasons. The Cleveland Guardians snatched him up in the 2023 offseason, but traded him for two other infielders, seemingly to add depth and youth over power.
In 97 games this year, Bell has 393 plate appearances and 347 official at-bats. He’s collected an ERA of .233, 11 home runs and 48 runs batted in. He’s also struck out 81 times, a stat which is on pace to end in a career high for him.
