The Seattle Mariners have completed a trade with the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder Taylor Ward, according to Ken Rosenthal. Baltimore will receive three right-handed pitchers in return: Alex Hoppe, Brock Moore and Harrison Kreiling.
Ward, 32, is a nine-year MLB veteran who has played for the Angels and Orioles in his career. In his career, he has slashed .247/.336/.426 with 120 home runs. This season, he is batting .246 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs.
Seattle has dealt some pitchers away, but in return get a hitter to help. They currently are 55-58 and are still within reach of the wild card in the American League.
The Orioles will receive pitching help in return, something the organization has struggled with in recent years. Hoppe, 27, has a 5.79 ERA at the big league level and 4.57 in the minors. Moore, 26, has a 5.55 ERA in three minor league seasons. Kreiling, 24, has limited time in the minors, but has a 1.69 ERA over time in rookie and A ball.
