The San Francisco Giants have agreed to a trade sending second baseman Luis Arraez to the Philadelphia Phillies. Jayson Stark reported the full trade, as the Phillies will also receive reliever Caleb Kilian. San Francisco will get pitching prospects Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair.
Arraez is an eight-year MLB veteran who has batted .318 with 40 home runs and 351 RBIs. He is a four-time All-Star and three-time batting title winner. This season for the Giants, Arraez has batted .324, which leads the league.
Kilian is also going to the Phillies to help the bullpen depth. The 29-year-old righty has a 4.26 ERA in 45 appearances.
The Phillies currently are in the last Wild Card spot in the National League and are making a push for the playoffs with this move.
In return, the Giants are getting the Phillies’ No. 4 prospect, Marquez and Gair. Marquez, 20, has pitched at A and A+ levels this season with a 1.68 ERA over 12 games. Gair, 23, has also played at both the A and A+ levels this season with a 4.50 ERA.
With the Giants 12 games out of the National League Wild Card, they are building for the future by sending away Arraez and Killian, especially with Arraez set to hit free agency this offseason.
