Last night the Angels lost out on Gerrit Cole to the New York Yankees. Not wanting to miss out again, they swooped in on Rendon. They took advantage after the Washington Nationals re-signed Stephen Strasburg and claimed they didn’t have enough money to sign both. Rendon is coming off a career year, a third-place finish in the MVP race, and most importantly a World Series title. Last year he hit .319, with 34 home runs, 126 RBI’s and an OPS of 1.010.
The Angles haven’t made the playoffs since 2014 and are coming off of four straight losing seasons. Rendon will join Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Shohei Ohtani, and if he isn’t traded, uber-prospect Jo Adell to form one of the best middle of the orders in baseball.
The Angels’ biggest weakness is pitching as they finished second to last year in ERA. But for now, its great to see the Angels are finally getting help for Trout.
