Angels Fire Joe Maddon

The Los Angeles Angels have fired manager Joe Maddon the team released in a statement on Tuesday.

Maddon was fired as the Angels are going through a 12-game losing streak. They have a 27-29 record on the season.

After successful stints with the Rays and Cubs, Maddon rejoined the Angels organization in 2020. He previously had served as an interim manager in 1996 and 199 for the team. His record for the Angels overall was 157-172.

Maddon has won a World Series with the Cubs and was named Manager of the Year on three separate occasions.

Phil Nevin will take over managerial duties for the Angels. He was hired as the third-base coach this offseason and has spent time coaching with the Yankees and Giants before joining the Angels. He is a former third baseman who batted .270 with 208 career home runs.

The Angels will hope that the move will help turn the season around, as a lot of money is being invested in the team. With Mike Trout, Noah Syndergaard, Shohei Ohtani and others, the Angels have the eighth-highest payroll in baseball.
