Former Reds first baseman Joey Votto has decided to retire from baseball he announced on his social media Wednesday night.
Votto, 40, spent 17 seasons with the Cincinnati Reds before signing with the Toronto Blue Jays this offseason. He was injured before the season began and wasn’t able to join the Blue Jays.
With the Reds, Votto batted .294 with 356 home runs and 1,144 RBIs. Votto finishes his career with 2,135 hits and an on-base percentage of .409. He won the MVP in 2010 and a Gold Glove. Votto was a six-time All-Star. He had a career that could end up with him in Cooperstown, New York as a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
