The Space Cowboys were originally an independent league team, formed in 2012, that joined the MiLB system in 2020. They are now members of the Triple-A West division, and won the Minor League title in 2020. They also won their division title in 2021.
The moniker of “Space Cowboys” comes from the Houston area’s ties to NASA and space exploration in general. It is also the title of several popular songs, and a movie starring Tommy Lee Jones.
