Tatis’ first cover comes after his breakout 2020 season. In 59 games, he averaged .277, hitting 17 home runs and driving in 45 runs total. He won the Padres’ Silver Slugger award, and finished fourth in MVP voting in the pandemic-shortened season.
The young shortstop came into relevance after showing a propensity for slugging huge home runs. One of them a grand slam against the Texas Rangers on a 3-0 count. This blew the game wide open, pushing the Padres’ lead to 14-3, upsetting baseball purists.
Tatis, Jr. will be the 24th total MLB player to grace the cover of the Sony-released baseball simulator.
