Dusty Baker named AL Manager of the Year

Dusty Baker Manager of the Year

The Houston Astros’ first-year manager Dusty Baker has been named the American League’s Manager of the Year for 2021. This is Baker’s fourth time winning a Manager of the Year award.

The Astros’ Twitter account congratulated Baker on Tuesday morning.

Baker has previously won three NL Manager of the Year awards, in 1993, 1997 and 2000. All three of those wins came with the San Francisco Giants. This is not only Baker’s first AL Manager of the Year win, but his very first season managing an American League team.

The Astros finished in first place in their division in 2021, with a record of 95-67. Houston’s baseball franchise was stained entering the 2020 and 2021 season after a cheating scandal put the validity of their World Series championship in question. Baker and the Astros responded by getting back to the World Series, ultimately losing to the Atlanta Braves.
