The name Guardians is an ode to the statues on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge.
Cleveland decided to change their name from the Indians to be more inclusive of people of all walks of life. They will remain the Indians for the rest of the 2021 season before switching over to the Guardians.
Other names that were considered were the Spiders and the Avengers.
