Cincinnati Reds Trade Tucker Barnhart to Detroit Tigers

Reds Trade Tucker Barnhart

The Cincinnati Reds have completed a trade that will send catcher Tucker Barnhart to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for infielder Nick Quintana. Jon Heyman reported the news on Twitter.

Barnhart, 30, spent eight seasons with the Reds after coming up as a minor leaguer in their system. He won two Gold Gloves and batted .248 over his career with Cincinnati.

Quintana was a second-round pick in the 2019 draft. He batted .186 in the minor leagues during the 2021 season.

Tyler Stephenson is set to fill in as the Reds’ everyday catcher. In two seasons in the big leagues, Stephenson has batted .286 and has hit 12 home runs.

Barnhart had an option for the 2022 season, so the trade will net the Reds something in lieu of declining his option.
