The Cincinnati Reds have fired manager David Bell according to Mark Sheldon. Bench coach Freddy Benavides will finish out the season for the team.
Bell managed the Reds for six seasons, posting a 409-455 record. This season, the Reds were 76-80 under Bell, which was below expectations for a team that won 82 games last season. He made the postseason in an expanded playoff during the COVID-shortened season of 2020. The Reds did not win a playoff game under Bell.
Last season, the Reds gave a contract extension to Bell following a hot streak of games.
