The Boston Red Sox have announced that Chris Sale will undergo Tommy John surgery, Ken Rosenthal reported on Thursday afternoon. The Red Sox will be down another starter in 2020 with David Price going to the Dodgers.
The southpaw had a career high ERA in 2019 at 4.40. He missed the All-Star game for the first time since 2011 after making it for seven years in-a-row. Sale still has a career ERA of 3.03, and he finished in the top six for AL Cy Young every season from 2012-through-2018. He will be a big loss for the Red Sox in 2020.
