The Boston Red Sox have completed a trade to acquire outfielder Tommy Pham from the Cincinnati Reds according to Jeff Passan.
Pham, 34, has batted .238 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs this season for Cincinnati. He has played nine MBL seasons with time spent in St. Louis, Tampa Bay, San Diego, Cincinnati and now Boston.
The Red Sox recently dealt catcher Christian Vazquez to the Astros, so it isn’t clear what their strategy is for the rest of the season. They currently have a 51-52 record, which could mean they are selling or buying at the trade deadline, but neither is apparent.
Cincinnati will receive a player to be named later according to C. Trent Rosecrans. The Reds already unloaded Luis Castillo and Tyler Naquin in the last week as they start another rebuild.
