The Toronto Blue Jays have completed a trade with the Cleveland Guardians for starting pitcher Shane Bieber, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. There are no confirmed reports about the return for the Guardians.
Bieber is a seven-year vet who won the Cy Young in 2020 and is a two-time All-Star. He has a career record of 62-32 and an ERA of 3.22. The righty has not pitched since April of 2024, as he has been going through recovery from Tommy John surgery.
The Blue Jays are 64-46 and in first place in the AL East. They will hope the move bolsters their pitching, which ranks 22nd in the league with a 4.22 ERA.
Cleveland is 54-54 right now, but has decided to sell at the deadline. They have closer Emmanuel Clase and reliever Luis Ortiz under investigation for gambling. Now, they will likely get prospects for the future.
