The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired starting pitcher Jose Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels, according to Jeff Passan. In return, the Angels will receive shortstop Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti and Angel Rivero.
Soriano, 27, has played in four MLB seasons for the Angels in his career. Over that time, he has a 26-27 record and a 3.72 ERA. This season has been a career year for Soriano, as he has gone 9-6 with an ERA of 3.29 despite the Angels struggling.
The Blue Jays are currently in last place in the AL East with a 52-60 record. A move for Soriano is aggressive, but even if they can’t make it to the playoffs this season, Soriano is under club control through 2028.
Los Angeles will receive the Blue Jays no. 2 prospect in shortstop Arjun Nimmala. Nimmala, 20, is moving up the ranks as a prospect and is now in AA. At that level, he is batting .279 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 33 games played. Micheletti, 24, is slashing .251/.347/.454 at the AA level this season. Rivero is just 19 and has a 2.36 ERA at the Rookie ball level.
