The Houston Astros have made a move to reacquire a key piece from their two World Series-champion teams. Justin Verlander is on his way back to Houston after just half a season as a Met. Reports indicate Drew Gilbert is a part of the deal.
USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday
Verlander is an all-timer when it comes to workhorse starting pitcher. He’s a Rookie of the Year, an MVP, a three-time Cy Young winner, a nine-time All-Star, an ALCS MVP, and a two-time World Series Champion. He also has a Triple Crown and led the MLB in ERA twice.
In 2023, Verlander is 6-5 with a 3.15 ERA over 94.1 innings pitched. He’s given up nine home runs, walked 31 batters and struck out 81. Last season, he won an AL-high 18 games, collected an impressive 1.75 ERA and won his third Cy Young award.
