The New York Yankees have completed a trade for the Cubs’ first baseman Anthony Rizzo. In return for Rizzo, the Cubs will receive outfielder Kevin Alcantara and right hander Alexander Vizcaino. ESPN’s Ken Rosenthal reported the news on Thursday evening via Twitter.
Rizzo was the result of one of the first trade made by the Theo Epstein regime in Chicago. During the teardown and rebuild of the Cubs organization, Rizzo was a member of the team during their 90-plus and 100-plus loss seasons.
He became one of the core pieces of the lineup, leading the North Siders to their first World Series championship in 108 years along with players like Kris Bryant and Jake Arrieta.
New York has also traded for Rangers slugger Joey Gallo ahead of the trade deadline. Stay tuned to TGH for more MLB trade deadline breaking news.
