The Los Angeles Angels have acquired relievers Andrew Chafin and Luis Garcia from the Nationals, according to Jeff Passan. In return, the Nationals will get reliever Jake Elder and first baseman Sam Brown.
Chafin, a lefty, has a 2.70 ERA this season in 26 appearances. Garci, a righty, has a 0.90 ERA in 10 appearances this season with the Nationals and a 4.10 ERA overall this year.
The Angels are strengthening their bullpen, which ranks as one of the worst in the league in ERA at 4.99. They are 53-55 this season and four games out of an AL Wild Card spot.
Elder, 26, has experience as a starter and a reliever in his career. The lefty has a 4.91 ERA in eight MLB appearances this season. Brown, 23, is a minor league first baseman who is batting .244 with five home runs in AA this season.
The Nationals are 44-63 this season and are looking to the future with these trades.
