Even though there is still a ton of 2023 left to go, it is never too early to start looking at the future. At least that’s the thinking if you are Wizards of the Coast. On Saturday August 5, Magic: The Gathering revealed their roadmap for 2024. Wizards unveiled eight new titles for the upcoming year. The titles are a combination of original Standard sets and Universes Beyond products. The announcement is an exciting look at what’s ahead for the popular TCG as it gives a little bit of something for all players of all skill levels. Let’s take a peek at what’s on the horizon for M:TG .
Magic: The Gathering 2024 Roadmap
Ravnica Remastered
To kick off the 2024 Magic year, Wizards of the Coast is welcoming another re-mastered set focused around the plane of Ravnica. Ravnica Remastered is the latest in a series of sets that are constructed with the single-focus of drafting in mind. After visiting Ravnica three separate times, the Magic team feels it is the right time to welcome in a sort of “greatest hits” album from Ravnica’s past. It’ll bring all of the best of guild-drafting in one carefully curated draft experience.

Standard Sets
Murders at Karlov Manor
Grab your pipe and our notepad, because it’s time to solve a murder. The first Standard set releasing next year is yet another foray into the world of Ravnica with Murders at Karlov Manor. Murders is a top-down set centered around the “murder mystery” genre. Murder, intrigue, investigation and treachery are all on the menu for this house party. Players will also experience a Clue crossover that will depict popular Clue characters as Magic cards – similar to the Dracula treatments during Crimson Vow. While this set will involve the much-loved guilds, the guilds themselves won’t be the sole focus this time around. Players can expect this set early Q1 in 2024.
Outlaws of Thunder Junction
It’s time for a wild west villain brawl y’all.
Outlaws of Thunder Junction is a set all about the villains of Magic: The Gathering. Taking place in a “Wild West” plane, Outlaws takes players through an adventure that is sure to be filled with roughhousery, shenaniganry, and debauchery as familiar villains romp around this frontier fantasy setting. This set is one of the few key story sets that will dive deep into life after planeswalking.
Bloomburrow
Tired of seeing boring old humans in your Magic sets? Do you ever want to see a mouse holding a sword gearing up to battle against a wolf that is probably going to destroy the world? Then boy is there a set for you. Meet, Bloomburrow. Bloomburrow is all about forest critters and their story in a plane that is only inhabited by animals. All of the animals in this set are scaled to their typical size, meaning all the items surrounding them are in scale. Bloomburrow is set to release in Q3.
Duskmourn House of Horror
The last Standard set of 2024 is slated to be the scariest of the bunch. Duskmourn: House of Horror is a set that aims to encapsulate all of the modern horror tropes from 70’s and 80’s thillers. It is a top-down set that will do it’s best to evoke that unsettling fear many slasher films bring out of their audience. Set inside a giant haunted mansion, Duskmourn will surely be a killer time. (I’ll see myself out)
Universes Beyond and MHIII
Fallout
The first of two new entries into the Universes Beyond series is the post-apocalyptic franchise Fallout. Described as a “love letter to Fallout“, this Universes Beyond set will be a Commander-only expansion. Players will most likely be able to choose a leader from one of the various different factions as their commander. Will you join the Brotherhood of Steel and try to secure the wastes for those who can’t fight? Or join Caeser’s Legion to rule with an iron first? Maybe you’ll side with the ghouls and mutants to cause havoc where you tread. Whatever you do, make sure you find the right radio station for that perfect playlist.
Assassin creed
Hop into the Animus and find yourself fighting for your future, in the past. Magic is teaming up with Ubisoft to create a new Assassin’s Creed Universes Beyond set. With a large history of games to choose from, the Assassin’s Creed Universes beyond set will be sticking to just booster packs for players to collect. These are necessarily made with drafting in mind, but hey no one is stopping you from trying.
Modern Horizon III
Oh yea, it’s about time to usher in a new set of busted mythics for Modern. Modern Horizons is back with it’s third installment, and from some early art it looks like the Eldrazi are back in some capacity. Wizards noted that this Modern Horizons will also feature new and interesting mechanics on double-faced cards. Prepare those wallets as this will most likely be the most expensive set of the year.
