Even before fans head back to Dominaria, Wizards of the Coast unveiled it’s larger schedule for upcoming Standard sets through 2023. The Standard set roadmap was revealed during the “Wizards Presents” stream on Thursday August 18. The stream featured updates on all things Magic and Dungeons and Dragons related, including the major announcement for Standard sets. Audiences weren’t expecting to see the entire 2023 roadmap, but that is exactly what viewers got.
Wizards of the Coast revealed the five next sets for Standard in their hour long stream. Starting with the already announced Brother’s War releasing later this year, Wizards announced the continuation of the current story in Dominaria United. The next three sets will feature the culmination of the behind-the-scenes actions of the Phyrexian Praetors. Starting with Phyrexia: All Will be One in January of 2023, players can expect to see March of the Machine and March of the Machine: The Aftermath in the spring of 2023.
After the epic conclusion of this “Phyrexia Arc”, players are headed back to Eldraine for the first time since 2019. Then players will start off the 2024 year by hanging out with the pirates and vampires of Ixalan. The final two sets appear to be unrelated to the previous story, giving players a much needed break from the chaos and heartbreak that is sure to ensue.
Wizards of the Coast looks like they won’t be slowing down any time soon. In between these Standard sets will be several Secret Lair drops and Universes Beyond releases to increase the already gigantic card pool for Magic: The Gathering.
