Questionable Madden 19 Ratings: Oakland Raiders

The Game Haus will be analyzing the player ratings from Madden 19 of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with some of the initial rankings of players. This article will look into the head-scratching Madden 19 ratings for the Oakland Raiders.

Amari Cooper – 86

Amari Cooper had an off year. However, reports indicate that his subpar year was due to playing through an injury all year. Derek Carr stated it was like Cooper was playing on one foot last season. In addition, the Raiders were going through an offensive transition meaning that a lot of the offense still needed to be sorted out. Despite those obstacles, and missing almost three games, Cooper amassed almost 680 yards and seven touchdowns.

With all these factors considered, Amari Cooper should not have dropped as far as 86. Amari Cooper has gained 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns in just three years. Showing that much talent and consistency at 24 years old means Amari Cooper is deserving of a much higher rank.

Jordy Nelson – 86

Jordy Nelson was bad last year. Maybe he still has something left in the tank, but his 482 yards last year does not justify his rating of 86. New Oakland teammate Seth Roberts had 455 yards, yet he is only rated 77. Would anyone really argue that Jordy Nelson is about as good as teammate Amari Cooper, Allen Robinson, or Tyreek Hill? Doubtful.

Specific areas where his attributes are off are speed and acceleration. His speed is higher than it should be at 88 and his acceleration is way higher than it should be at 91. Jordy Nelson is more of a big body possession type than a quick elusive reciever. Yet somehow, Nelson has 91 acceleration, making him quicker than Danny Amendola, Amari Cooper, or even shifty slot receiver Nelson Agholor.

I understand how some people could feel that lowering Jordy Nelson more is harsh since he caught 97 passes for 1,257 yards just two seasons ago and is in a very similar situation to Amari Cooper who I just argued for. The difference between the two is that Amari Cooper is much younger, Nelson is 33 years old.

The end comes quickly in the NFL, especially if you are not a quarterback. Just look at Dez Bryant. In addition, Nelson has had the luxury of playing with Aaron Rodgers which inflates his stats, he likely would not have performed as well on the Cardinals, for example.

Adjusted Ratings

Amari Cooper – 88

Jordy Nelson – 82
