EA Sports’ Madden franchise has the daunting task of ranking all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. So, The Game Haus will be analyzing the most questionable ratings for players on every NFL team.
Here are the most questionable Madden 21 ratings for the Buffalo Bills.
Cole Beasley – 83
After spending seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, last season Cole Beasley signed a deal with the Buffalo Bills to possibly emerge as their number one receiver.
Beasley became a reliable receiver who did most of his work in the middle of the field, much like what his role was in Dallas. Though he was in the best position he could to have a breakout year, his production wasn’t anything more than normal for him. Beasley ended the season with 778 yards and six touchdowns. He did not become the teams number one receiver. Beasley was behind John Brown who had 1,060 yards and six touchdowns.
Chris Conley of the Jacksonville Jaguars finished with three fewer yards and one less touchdown than Beasley and is ranked only a 76. New Houston Texans receiver Randall Cobb who replaced Beasley in Dallas last season had 50 more receiving yards than Beasley and has a 78 ranking. Even Brown who had better stats on the same team as Beasley is only ranked an 82.
Beasley is considered one of the better slot receivers in football, but is just that. He is not the number two option on the Bills behind Stefon Diggs and shouldn’t be ranked that way.
Adjusted Rating- 79
Tremaine Edmunds – 80
Due to his young age and production early in his career, Tremaine Edmunds has one of the highest ceilings of any defensive player in the league. Edmunds was selected in the first round by the Buffalo Bills back in 2018.
Edmunds racked up 115 combined tackles, 1.5 sacks, nine passes defended and one interception last season. That earned him a Pro Bowl nod as well. Edmunds is arguably the best player in the Bills front seven. But is not ranked as such. Jerry Hughes (82) and Ed Oliver (81) are ranked higher than him.
San Fransisco 49ers middle linebacker Fred Warner had similar stats to Edmunds last season with 118 combined tackles, three sacks, nine passes defended and one interception, but is ranked an 87. Demario Davis plays outside linebacker for the New Orleans Saints and he had 111 tackles, four sacks, 12 passes defended and also one interception is an 89.
There is no doubt that Tremaine Edmunds’ future is bright and he will have higher ratings down the road in his career. But Edmunds Madden rating reflects that he is a solid prospect and not a player who is one of the best at his position.
Adjusted Rating- 84
Mario Addison – 76
One of the most consistent pass rushers in football over the past couple of seasons has been Mario Addison. Addison developed from a situational pass rusher to the team’s top edge rusher over the past eight seasons in Carolina. He has 55 career sacks in that span.
For the fourth straight season, Addison led the Carolina Panthers in sacks. This past year he had 9.5 sacks. Now Addison is a member of the Buffalo Bills and is the favorite to lead the team in sacks this coming year. Last season Jerry Hughes had 4.5 sacks and Trent Murphy had 5.0 sacks. But both are ranked higher than Addison. Hughes is an 82 and Murphy is a 78.
Both Matthew Judon of the Baltimore Ravens and Harold Landry of the Tennessee Titans had similar stats to Addison last season. But Judon is ranked an 83 and Landry is an 82.
The Bills signed Addison because they needed pass rush help and he is expected to be one of their starting defensive ends. So why isn’t Addison ranked as their best and one of their starting defensive ends?
Adjusted Rating- 83
