Viego is bringing his army of shadows to the boards of Legends of Runeterra. On Tuesday July 6, Legends of Runeterra announced that Viego will be the next champion to join the LoR roster. The Ruined King joins the collectable card game alongside plenty of powerful Shadow Isle followers. The announce also coincides with the overarching Ruination theme featured across both Legends of Runeterra and League of Legends.
Viego joins Legends of Runeterra, unsurprisingly, as a member of the Shadow Isles region. Viego’s theme is all about sacrificing allies in order to gain advantages. This is a recurring theme across the Shadow Isle cards, but the new followers seem a bit stronger than those in the past. Of course in order to compensate for the stronger stats, the drawbacks are larger as well. Viego in particular needs to see 20+ power from allies to die in order to level up to his final form. But when he does, he looks to be an unstoppable force that prevents opponents from hanging onto their strongest allies for long.

It’ll be interesting to watch as players aim to build around the powerful new champion in Legends of Runeterra. The deckbuilding restriction needed to level Viego is steep. The deck needs to be able to remove its own creatures, while still protecting it’s life total with a stable board. Shadow Isles certainly has plenty of expendable creatures, but potentially pairing up with Demacia or Bilgewater will push this new deck over the top. Players have plenty of time to theory craft a new deck, as Viego reaches the live servers on July 14.
